Manufacturing Engineer

Location: Oldham
Salary: Up to £52,000 depending on experience
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 6:00am – 4:30pm
Department: Engineering
Job Type: Permanent

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join an established sheet metal fabrication environment, supporting a busy production operation across laser cutting, CNC folding, welding, painting and assembly.

This is a hands-on, shop-floor focused role where you will take ownership of how products are manufactured, from initial design handover and New Product Introduction (NPI) through to process validation, continuous improvement and full production release.

You will work closely with Design, Production and Engineering teams to develop robust, repeatable manufacturing processes, improve efficiency and solve problems at their root cause.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support New Product Introduction (NPI) from design handover through to production.
  • Carry out manufacturability reviews and develop process routings, tooling and fixture requirements.
  • Support first-off inspections, trial builds, FAT and process validation activities.
  • Apply Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to CAD and engineering drawings.
  • Provide practical manufacturing feedback to the Design team.
  • Design and develop jigs, fixtures and manufacturing aids to reduce variation and improve production processes.
  • Create and maintain accurate Work Instructions and SOPs that reflect practical shop-floor requirements.
  • Carry out root cause analysis on production and process issues, implementing permanent corrective actions.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing principles to reduce waste, handling and cycle times.
  • Monitor and track the benefits of process improvements.
  • Work directly with production operators to identify issues and implement practical solutions.
  • Support equipment trials and ensure processes are validated before being released into full production.

About You:

We are looking for someone with proven Manufacturing or Process Engineering experience within a production environment. Experience within sheet metal fabrication would be highly advantageous.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in a manufacturing or production engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of sheet metal processes, ideally including laser cutting, CNC folding and welding.
  • Competent CAD skills with a practical understanding of DFM, DFA and engineering drawings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address the root cause of issues.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and the confidence to work directly on the shop floor with operators.
  • Experience developing and improving manufacturing processes.
  • HNC/HND in an Engineering discipline or equivalent practical experience.

Desirable Experience:

  • Jig, fixture or manufacturing aid design.
  • FAT and process validation.
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma.
  • ERP/MRP systems.
  • Digital Work Instructions.
  • BEng/BSc in an Engineering discipline.

Why Join?

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer who wants to have a genuine impact on how products are designed, manufactured and improved.

You will have the opportunity to work across the full manufacturing process, influence NPI projects, introduce better ways of working and make measurable improvements to production efficiency and quality.

If you are an experienced Manufacturing Engineer looking for a role where you can get out from behind the desk and make a real difference on the shop floor, we would love to hear from you.

Application question(s):

  • Do you have knowledge of sheet metal processes, ideally including laser cutting, CNC folding and welding?
  • Do you have CAD skills with a practical understanding of DFM, DFA and engineering drawings?
