The Role
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Operations Shift Manager is responsible for leading all outbound warehouse activities across Picking, Packing and Despatch. The role is accountable for delivering operational performance, ensuring customer orders are fulfilled accurately, on time and safely while driving productivity, quality, engagement and continuous improvement across the shift.
??? What You’ll Be Doing:
Shift Management:
- Lead and coordinate Warehouse Supervisors, Team Leaders, and Operatives across outbound operations during the shift.
- Allocate outbound workload (Picking, Packing and Despatch activities) to ensure efficiency and adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Track progress against outbound KPIs, ensuring volume targets and service levels are achieved.
- Resolve operational challenges quickly, adjusting priorities to maintain productivity and flow.
Outbound Workflow Coordination:
- Oversee the end-to-end outbound flow, ensuring smooth order fulfilment from order release through to carrier despatch.
- Maintain effective communication and handovers between AM and PM shifts to ensure continuity of outbound operations.
- Build strong collaboration between outbound and Inbound teams to support overall warehouse performance.
- Work closely with Supervisors and other departments (e.g. transport, planning) to prioritise customer orders and allocate resources.
- Monitor orders through picking, packing and despatch, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and correct system/process compliance.
People Management and Reporting:
- Manage and develop Supervisors, Team Leaders, Operatives, and agency staff within outbound functions.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, providing clear feedback, coaching, and support.
- Identify skills gaps and implement training and development plans.
- Address conduct and performance issues confidently, including leading investigations, absence reviews, and performance improvement plans (PIPs).
- Track and manage outbound KPIs, maintaining accurate performance data and reporting.
- Clear understanding of CPU and how to use this to make informed decisions.
Quality and Safety Compliance:
- Ensure outbound operations comply with all company procedures, quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Drive adherence to safe working practices, including correct use of PPE and equipment.
- Carry out routine safety and process audits, resolving risks or non-compliance promptly.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance outbound productivity, accuracy, efficiency and customer service.

- Excellent IT skills, knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel etc.
- Experience of Peoplevox is beneficial but not crucial.
