Job Description |

The role: | As a Transport Controller you are responsible for the day to day management of a team of drivers and routing for the depots and subcontracted fleet of vehicles. |
Tasks / Functions / main responsibilities: |
Main Responsibilities: |
- Cost effective daily planning of depot owned and subcontracted fleet to maximise fuel / mileage efficiency and minimise overtime working, and to maximise profit.
- Control and compliance of fleet maintenance schedules and records.
- Ensure that the business is compliant with O licence obligations to present vehicles for service, record and monitor and rectify defects.
- Monitor driver’s hours, working time and download tachograph and provide tachograph counselling.
- Manage and record vehicle maintenance and control of maintenance costs, monthly KPI’s
- Monitor fuel consumption and monitor costs and ordering
- Management of company operating license.
- Collation and recording of relevant driver and fleet information.
- Communication and implementation of Health and Safety policies.
- Communication with commercial for obtaining pricing / stock of skips
- Maintenance and full utilization of relevant software packages.
- Direct communication with customers and suppliers to meet and exceed expectations.
- Ensure the vehicles and drivers work within all transport legislation
- Give work instructions and monitor the performance of drivers, ie briefing / debriefing during course of the working day.
- Management of drivers and of disciplinary processes.
- Monitoring incoming mailbox, adding requests and assigning daily jobs
- All relevant Administration duties relating to above tasks.
- Weighbridge duties as and when necessary
Undertake any other duties as requested by their line manager in accordance with the scope and the responsibilities of the role. |
Recommended Personal Profile |
Academic qualifications | GSCE A level or equivalent |
Professional experience |
- Minimum 3 years’ experience of running small to medium LGV transport operations.

Specific training: (detailed in specialised functions) |
- C.P.C in National Road Haulage (training can be provided)
- Knowledge of transport planning and routing systems
- Competent in Microsoft Office applications
