Site Manager
Kealshore Ltd - Kirkby, Merseyside

Annual Salary: £45,000-£52,000
Overtime Rate: £25.00/hr
Standard Working Hours:
Monday to Friday - 07:00 - 17:00
Saturday - 07:00 - 12:00

Purpose:
The Site Manager has responsibility for the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of the entire site, including the wash plant, yard operations, crushing, screening, loading, stockpiling and traffic management.

The role is accountable for co-ordinating all operational functions, ensuring production targets are met, resources are used efficiently, safety standards are enforced, and the Wash Plant Manager and Supervisors are fully supported and aligned with site priorities. This is a hands-on leadership role with full operational ownership of the site.

This is a hands-on leadership role requiring regular operation of site plant — particularly the loading shovel — to directly coordinate, oversee, and control yard operations and material flow.

Responsibilities
1. Overall Site & Yard Management

  • Take accountability for the day-to-day operation of the entire site, including yard, wash plant, crushing, screening, and loading activities.
  • Plan, coordinate, and control daily site activities to ensure efficient material flow and maximum productivity.
  • Manage site layout, traffic management, stockpiling, and loading operations to eliminate congestion, delays, and inefficiencies.

2. Hands-On Yard Control & Loading Shovel Operation

  • Regularly operate the loading shovel as a primary means of controlling yard movements, stockpiling, and loading activities.
  • Use shovel operation to maintain real-time oversight of site activity, traffic management, and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate vehicle movements, material flow, and priorities directly from the yard, not solely through instruction.
  • Identify and resolve operational issues immediately while on plant, maintaining productivity and safety.
  • Step in operationally where required to prevent downtime and maintain site output.

3. Wash Plant Oversight & Coordination

  • Support and coordinate with the Wash Plant Manager to ensure wash plant output aligns with overall site demand and priorities.
  • Integrate wash plant operations with yard movements, stockpiling, loading, crushing, and screening activities.
  • Maintain clear communication between the wash plant and wider site operations to prevent bottlenecks, downtime, or conflicting priorities.

4. Operational Supervision (Crushing, Screening & Yard)

  • Oversee crushing, screening, and general yard operations to ensure efficient processing, output, and material quality.
  • Ensure Supervisors and Operators are effectively managing their areas and working safely.
  • Monitor production rates, equipment utilisation, and overall site efficiency, taking corrective action where performance falls short.

5. Staff Leadership & Management

  • Lead, manage, and coordinate all site personnel through Supervisors and Managers.
  • Ensure all staff are correctly inducted, trained, and competent for their roles.
  • Allocate labour and plant resources effectively to meet daily operational demands.
  • Conduct performance reviews, address underperformance, and escalate disciplinary matters in line with company procedures.

6. Safety, Compliance & Environmental Control

  • Hold overall responsibility for site health, safety, and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure all operations comply with company policies, RAMS, permits, and legal requirements.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety briefings, and routine site inspections.
  • Enforce PPE compliance for all staff, contractors, and visitors.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazards, ensuring corrective actions are implemented promptly.

7. Plant & Equipment Oversight

  • Oversee the condition, availability, and utilisation of all site plant and equipment.
  • Ensure maintenance schedules are followed across crushing, screening, and yard equipment.
  • Coordinate with the Wash Plant Manager on wash plant maintenance and planned downtime.
  • Ensure defects are reported, prioritised, and resolved efficiently to minimise disruption.

8. Quality Control & Output Standards

  • Ensure all processed materials meet required quality and grading standards.
  • Carry out regular inspections of stockpiles and finished products.
  • Address quality issues immediately through operational changes, maintenance, or corrective actions.

9. Reporting, Communication & Planning

  • Maintain clear, structured communication with Directors and Operations Management.
  • Produce regular reports on site performance, production levels, issues, and improvement actions.
  • Lead weekly site reviews covering safety, output, maintenance, and staffing.
  • Escalate risks early with practical, solution-focused recommendations.

10. Cost Control & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor operational efficiency and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality.
  • Drive continuous improvement across site layout, workflows, staffing, and plant utilisation.
  • Support and implement best-practice processes and smarter ways of working across all site operations.
