Job Description

Title:  CAD Design Engineer

Reports to:  Technical Manager.

Responsible for:

Developing CAD models and engineering drawings that are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality and functional requirements.

Job Purpose:

To develop accurate and practical CAD designs and engineering drawings that meet functional, quality, cost, and manufacturing requirements, supporting the efficient production of products in line with company standards and processes.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 

Produce 3D CAD models and generate engineering drawings using SolidWorks.

Review ‘in-house’ project drawings using AutoCAD.

Progress new designs from concept through to manufacture.

Revise existing designs and drawings in response to design reviews, engineering change requests, and manufacturing feedback.

Maintain drawing control and revision history.

Ensure all designs comply with internal standards and quality procedures.

Consult internally with sales, engineering, and production to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.

Liaise with suppliers on technical queries and component specifications.

Assist with prototype builds, inspections, and design validation.

Support production and installation teams with technical guidance.

Apply Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) principles.

Participate in design reviews and contribute to problem solving and continuous improvement.

Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs).

Manage own workload to meet project timescales and seek support / report progress to Technical Manager as required.

Health and Safety
