Light Machine Shop Manager (BTech Division)
Location: Bolton
Are you an experienced machine shop leader ready to take full ownership of a high-performing precision manufacturing unit?
This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and technically strong professional to manage all aspects of our Light Machine Shop (BTech Division) — ensuring smooth operations, exceptional customer satisfaction, and consistent profitability.
You’ll oversee a skilled team of BTech operatives, leading production, customer engagement, quality assurance, and resource management in a modern, well-equipped machining environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, motivate and manage the Light Machine Shop team to achieve performance, quality and profitability targets.
- Maintain a safe, compliant, and efficient working environment aligned with company Health & Safety standards.
- Plan and coordinate order intake, scheduling, and resource deployment to meet customer delivery requirements.
- Produce accurate quotations for internal and external customers and manage relationships to maintain delivery, quality and PR standards.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of the ISO 9000 Quality Management System.
- Ensure equipment is maintained, safe, and capable to meet production demands.
- Oversee administrative duties, including timekeeping, attendance, and performance management.
- Drive continuous improvement, supporting growth and profitability of the business unit.
- Undertake any ad hoc duties as required.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a machine shop environment.
- Full understanding of machine tool functions, capabilities and applications (including CNC).
- Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Solid understanding of profitability, cost control, and general business management.
Desirable:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a machine shop management or supervisory role.
- General IT proficiency (ERP/MRP systems an advantage).
- Determined, adaptable and proactive approach to problem solving and leadership.
