Job Summary.

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced chief engineer to lead our engineering team and oversee the maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment throughout our corrugating plant.

The successful candidate will possess excellent technical knowledge and leadership skills, enabling them to drive improvements in plant efficiency and reduce downtime. This is a hands-on role that requires interaction with machinery and equipment. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and proven track record of problem solving.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervise and manage a team of engineers and technicians, providing guidance and support to ensure effective maintenance and repair activities.
  • Conduct regular inspections of machinery and equipment, identifying potential issues
  • Analyse performance Data and recommend adjustments to optimise production and reduce waste.
  • Coordinate with production management to prioritise maintenance schedules, minimising disruptions to production.
  • Research and recommend new technologies and innovations that could enhance plant performance and competitiveness.
  • Liaise with external contractors and suppliers as necessary, negotiating contracts and ensuring satisfactory delivery of goods and services
  • Monitor inventory levels and manage procurement of spare parts and materials, ensuring timely availability.
  • Enforce adherence to safety procedures and regulations, encouraging a culture of safety awareness throughout the plant.  
  • Manage projects related to plant improvements, upgrades, and expansions ensuing timely completion within budget
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) And technical manuals for plant equipment.
  • Provide training and coaching to junior engineers and technicians on maintenance procedures, troubleshooting methods, and safety protocols.
  • Diagnosing faults
  • Equipment inspection
  • Collaborate with Quality assurance to investigate product defects and develop corrective actions to eliminate cause.
  • Review and approve designs for modifications or upgrades to existing machinery, equipment, systems ensuring compatibility with existing infrastructure and alignment with business needs  
  • Carry out repairs as necessary

 

 

 

 

 

Skills:

  • Ability to interpret electrical drawings
  • Proficiency in computerised maintenance management system
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the capacity to build relationships with colleagues and external partners
  • Leadership and supervisory skills
  • Experience of project management.
  • Must Have Experience in the corrugator industry
  • Budget management

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical and electrical – desirable but not essential
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Proven track record of successfully managing engineering teams and driving improvements

 

Working Pattern:

  • Work schedule may vary, including weekends and holidays. Must be flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances.
